A dazzling smile can be your most captivating feature, but it all starts with clean, healthy teeth. At Protea Dental, we're committed to helping you maintain a bright and healthy smile with professional scale and polish cleaning services that not only enhance your smile but protect it too.
A scale and polish is a professional dental cleaning that removes plaque and tartar deposits which build up on your teeth over time. Plaque is a build-up of bacteria that sits on the teeth and gets into all the nooks and crannies that (even with regular, daily brushing) can be tough to get rid of on your own. When plaque is left for too long, it hardens into tartar, which then starts to eat away at the teeth, leading to cavities, gum disease and tooth decay.
With our specialised tools, we can get into hard-to-reach areas to remove the plaque build-up and effectively keep your teeth clean and healthy.
Our skilled dental hygienist will perform your cleaning in a gentle yet thorough manner. The process begins with scaling, where special dental instruments gently remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth surfaces and under the gumline. Following this, we polish your teeth with a special paste to remove surface stains and smooth the tooth surface.
The final step is a fluoride varnish left on the teeth for up to a minute. This helps strengthen the enamel and leaves you with a fresh and shining smile!
Like your routine check-up, we recommend a scale and polish every 6 months. However, depending on your oral health and personal needs, we may recommend more frequent cleanings.
Regular cleanings like this ensure your teeth are free of damaging plaque and tartar, and your smile remains bright and beautiful!
A scale and polish helps remove surface stains, giving your teeth a brighter look. However, it's important to note that this procedure is not a teeth-whitening treatment. If you're interested in lightening the colour of your teeth, take a look at our professional Teeth Whitening services.
