Dental bridges fill the void left by missing teeth, reestablishing the natural contour of your teeth and bite. Our dental bridges not only bridge the gap in your smile - they also bring back the joy and confidence of eating, speaking and smiling without hesitation.

What are dental bridges?

Dental bridges, as the name suggests, bridge the gap of one or more missing teeth. They are made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap (known as abutments) and a false tooth or teeth in between.

When are bridges recommended?

You may need a bridge if you:

  • Have one or more missing teeth
  • Desire to restore your smile
  • Want to maintain the shape of your face
  • Aim to distribute the forces in your bite correctly
  • Wish to prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position

What are the different types of bridges available?

There are 4 types of bridges available, each with its own benefits and uses depending on your unique situation:

  • Traditional: The most common type, traditional bridges, consist of one or more fake teeth (pontics) held in place by dental crowns (abutments) cemented onto each natural tooth on either side of the gap.
  • Cantilever: Similar to traditional bridges, cantilever bridges include pontics and abutments but are only supported on one side. The abutment is cemented to only one natural tooth, which is more common for gaps at the back of the mouth.
  • Maryland: A Maryland or resin-bonded bridge is primarily used to replace front teeth. It requires a strong bond, so it uses a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the backs of the adjacent teeth.
  • Implant-Supported: The sturdiest of all, implant-supported bridges use dental implants to hold the bridge in place.

How does the bridge procedure work?

Receiving a bridge can take a few appointments, but it is well worth it for a dazzling smile that restores your confidence and oral health. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Dr Faraaz Mathir will start by preparing your abutment teeth, which involves removing some enamel to fit the crowns. He then takes digital impressions to serve as models from which the bridge will be made.
  2. He then places a temporary bridge until you receive your permanent bridge.
  3. During your second visit, we remove the temporary bridge and place the new bridge to check the fit, colour and shape. Once the adjustments are done, we cement the bridge in place and your new smile is ready to take on the world.

How long do bridges last?

Dental bridges can last a decade or more with consistent oral hygiene and regular check-ups. They only require the same level of care as your regular teeth.
